On May 25, the community came together for a nostalgic journey Back to the 90’s, all for a great cause.

Hosted by Derick Lehmann from TheBigEvent.ca and held at ODAS Park, the ’90s-themed fundraiser raised an impressive $7,000 to purchase bikes for kids affiliated with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization in our community.

The event, which transported attendees back to the era of scrunchies, flannel shirts, and Tamagotchis, was a delightful mix of music, fashion, and charitable giving. Derick Lehmann, organizer from The Big Event, expressed his utmost satisfaction with the outcome of the fundraiser, stating, “We are thrilled with the generosity and support shown by the community. It’s heartwarming to see everyone come together and have a fun time while we make a difference in the lives of these children.”

Chad Cooke, president of ODAS Park, echoed Lehmann’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of hosting charitable events and giving back to the community.

“We are honoured to be a part of initiatives like this,” Cooke remarked. “It’s truly rewarding to see our venue utilized for such meaningful purposes and to collaborate with individuals like Derick to create positive impacts in our community.”

ODAS Park, a not-for-profit business, acted as the host venue and was proud to be part of the success of the event to help contribute towards the donation of these bikes for kids.

Miranda Chaffey, executive director Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia and District, expressed gratitude for the community’s support, stating, “The generosity displayed at the ’90s party fundraiser is overwhelming. These bikes will not only bring joy to the children but also promote physical activity and outdoor exploration, fostering positive growth and development.”

The funds raised will go towards purchasing 40 bikes for local children. Kenny Crisp, representing Home Hardware, shared the company’s commitment to the cause, stating, “We are proud to support this initiative by providing $12,000 worth of bikes to these children with the $7,000 raised. We’re happy to top up the donation amount so we could get every kid on the wish list a new bike this summer. We are pleased to collaborate on this fundraiser and give back to these kids in a fun and meaningful way.”

The collective efforts of The Big Event, ODAS Park, Home Hardware, and the generous attendees have exemplified the spirit of giving and community support in Orillia. Through their dedication and generosity, 40 children will soon experience the simple joy of riding a bike, thanks to the success of The Big Event’s most recent party fundraiser.
